Make grooming shorter and more frequent
Long-haired cats do best with brief daily grooming rather than one intense weekly session. Start at the cheeks and shoulders, then work toward areas that mat easily, like armpits, chest, belly, and tail base.
Detangle without drama
Hold the fur near the skin while brushing through a knot so you do not tug. For tight mats, pause and ask a groomer or vet for help instead of cutting close to the skin.
End every session while your cat is still calm. A treat, soft praise, or favorite toy helps grooming become predictable instead of stressful.
